Networking is the sharing of Information and resources amongst a number of computers and or devices across some sort of transmission media (Cat 5, wireless, fiber Optic).

- Coax (Benet connector usually in a T piece or shape)
- Cat5 (RJ45 connector)
- Wireless ( can be radio frequency, Microwave, satellite or bluetooth and others)
- Fiber Optic
What are Network Topology and some Topologies?
Network topology refers to the physical layout of a network.
Some Topologies that I know of are:
Why build a network?- It saves money from shared Devices such as Printers, Modem's or Mass Storage.
- Provides Internal and External Email and communication(Outlook, Messenger)
- To Provide Data Security Levels for Internal and External Access. (Sales staff can see Accounts but customers cant)

- Gateway
- Media Receiver
- NAS (network Area Storage)
- Printer / MFP (multifunction Printer Built in Scanner)
The future network devices can and will include items such as, Smart Fridge, Automated Home control, Security cameras, Phone answering/Dialing Systems.
The OSI model.
The OSI model stands for "Open Systems Interconnection" and is a reference for layered communications and computer network protocol design. It is split into a seven layer model with each layer interacting with the layer above and below (if applicable). The OSI model was developed to help precise error detection and design compatibility for network technologies, devices and applications.
OSI Layers and Protocols
The OSI layers can be remembered with a rhyme like "Australia Post Suck They Never Deliver Packages" I found this easy to remember as its funny and partly true. The First letter of each word is the same as the OSI layers which are: Application, Presentation, Session, Transport, Network, Data, Physical.
